2010 MA Nationals, Ft. Worth Texas
Parent Newsletter and Chaperone Commitment 

Our Dazzlers will be travelling to Texas this year to attend the MA Nationals held on Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, 2010. The planning has begun and we need to know a firm number from parents who will be joining us in chaperoning this trip. All Chaperones must be registered as Dividends and fingerprinted at the District Office in the Community Involvement Center, 1^st floor (cost approx. $48.00). Fingerprinting is required as soon as possible no later than 2 weeks before an event, registering as a Dividend is required now. See attached flyer regarding chaperone responsibilities.

We will be travelling by Airplane this year. The total cost for each dancer will be $400. This includes flight, transportation by motor coach within Texas, and hotel accommodations for 3 nights, including breakfast.

Tentative Texas Schedule:

Thursday March 11, 2010- Arrive at MCO airport after school for non-stop flight to DFW. Charter bus service to hotel in Ft. Worth.

Friday & Saturday March 12&13- MA National Dance Competition held at Ft. Worth Convention Center.

Sunday March 14- Depart from DFW to MCO arriving late evening.

Times and detailed itinerary will be updated in further newsletters.

There is a $50.00 non-refundable deposit due by Oct. 1^st, 2009.

This amount will be automatically charged to the girls’ account.

Payment schedule as follows: PLEASE SEND PAYMENTS PROMPTLY!

1^st Payment Deposit of $50 due Oct. 1st non-refundable

2^nd Payment                 $70 due Nov. 1^st

3^rd Payment                  $70 due Dec. 1^st

4^th Payment                  $70 due Jan. 1^st

5^th Payment                  $70 due Feb 1^st

6^th Payment                  $70 due Mar 1st

The total cost is subject to change but only to a lower amount which will be reflected in lower final payments. There are several fundraisers during the year made available for the girls and parents in order to raise money to help defer costs.

If you would like to Chaperone the payment schedule will be slightly higher. Each chaperone is responsible for total payment of flight, hotel and bus transportation. The breakdown of costs is;

Flight- $335.00 including tax

Bus- approx $60.00   

Hotel- $113.00 including tax per night

Quad- 4 per room= $84.75pp for 3 nights

Triple- $113pp for 3 nights

Double- $169.50pp for 3 nights

Basically, if you share a room with 3 others your total cost would be $479.75. These numbers could change according to quotes still not finalized.  It is important for us to get a correct count to the airline. There can be no refund for cancelations after January 10, 2010. SHS Dazzler Parent and Chaperone Guideline

Chaperones: Please register as a SCPS Dividend. Available on-line at www.scps.k12.fl.us. You must update each year. Overnight trips require fingerprinting which is available at the Educational Center 400 E. Lake Mary Blvd. in Sanford.

Parent/child policy: Mrs. Maguire requires intense concentration during all Dazzler functions. To maintain this focus, parents and friends cannot interact with a Dazzler. Your job as a chaperone is to politely enforce this requirement. Parents can always speak to a chaperone if they need to contact their child for any reason.

Chaperone/child policy: Please try to limit your contact with your own child while chaperoning for two reasons. One: concentration. Two: fairness to those who do not have a parent chaperoning. We understand that you are chaperoning because you care about your child but it is important to treat each child the same.

Deportment: Your job as chaperone includes monitoring Dazzler behavior. Mrs. Maguire outlines rules and expectations very thoroughly. Please report any “attitude” problems or concerns immediately to an Officer.

Dance Team is fun, nerve-racking, exciting, exhausting and sometimes a little crazy! It takes teamwork and hard work to maintain the high quality that makes us Dazzlers.
